LESSON ONE: SKIN BASE
This here is not a lesson on foundation, but you will need to know simply what base colour your skin is. Most of the Australian population have yellow tones. Generally you will be either or a combination of the following:
- Pink (E.g. Irish, or those with copper coloured hair)
- Yellow (Tip! A spray tan will make a pink undertone appear yellow)
- Olive (E.g. Latino cultures)
- Blue (E.g. African)

LESSON TWO: WARM & COOL
Did you notice that the Pink skin tone looks "cold" and the Yellow skin tone looks "warm"? This is important because certain colours will enhance your skin tone and others will make you look like you stepped out of a morgue.
Warm
- Orange, Bronze
- Yellow, Gold
- Blue
Cool
- Neutral browns, beiges and black.
LESSON THREE: ENHANCING EYES
Black smokey eye getting a bit boring? I've chopped your options so you get this right to impress the dude or make your girlfriends green. But first! You need to understand that Harmonious colours are colours that are in harmony with you. Complimentary colours will make your actual eye colour stand out and you'll find people complimenting your eye colour not the makeup.
Best shadow & Eyeliner colours for:
Blue Eyes
- Blue, aqua (Harmonious!)
- Brown, orange or bronze (Complimentary)
- Tip: Most black eye shadows are blue-based so apply for a very dramatic contrast with light blue eyes.
Green Eyes
- Green, olive (Harmonious)
- Red, Pink (Complimentary)
- Tip: Lucky enough to have a yellow "ring" around your pupil? Apply purple to your eyes to make this stand out.
